General Assignment Reporting

Emily loves this hands-on aspect of broadcast journalism.  She likes to be the first on the story, finding the sources and extra components her competitors can't offer.  She prides herself in getting the tough interviews and enjoys being a storyteller for the viewers at home.  Below are some examples of her reports.

Care Packages For Marines (NAT pkg)

A group of local volunteers put together care packages for marines serving in Afghanistan. I wanted to put a unique twist on the story because I've seen stories before about care packages for soldiers. So, I told it by only using sound from my interviews and natural sound from my surroundings.

D-D Farm Fears Shut Down

The USDA threatened to close a local animal sanctuary and handed it more than 15 violations that include inadequate enclosures for lions and tigers, as well as issues with sanitation and veterinarian care. D-D Farm fears the animals will get euthanized if it doesn't make the pricey changes.

Bridge Construction Blocks Neighbors

For nearly two months an entire neighborhood had to drive back road detours to get to town, because of bridge improvements that cut-off the quickest route.  Here's one impacted neighbor's story.

Rezoning Scares Regency Residents

Hundreds of residents living in Regency Mobile Home Park could get kicked out of their homes if a rezoning request gets approved by the city.  A developer wants to rezone it into student housing.  Here's what the tenants living in Regency have to say.

Breaking News: Fatal Stabbing

We were about to interview the county sheriff about a different story when he got a phone call about a fatal shooting. He said we could follow him as long as we could keep up. So we did and we were the first on the crime scene allowing us to capture exclusive video.

Out in a Blizzard

When a massive storm started to cover our viewing area with snow, my colleague and I hit the streets to see who else was brave enough to venture outside!
